Exploration fabric manipulation with a focus on weave. Combined with fascination of contrasting stripes and patterns and the artwork of Bridget Riley, who makes these into optical illusions
to create really mesmerising pieces.

Additionally influenced by favourite designers Jil Sander, specifically the looks from the 90s; the tailored two piece suits.

 

Through experimentation with weave Lucy used a variety of different fabrics and was particularly inspired by using fabrics in unconventional ways, like the wrong side of denim – the threads make an interesting pattern reminiscent of the striped patterns in Rileys’ work. Wanted to see how different fabrics and textures could be used within the weave to change the overall look of a garment.
